March 16, 2020 2:30 p.m.

With much consideration for the State of Indiana and City of Indianapolis’ COVID-19 guidelines and the health and well-being of our patrons, staff, and artists, Indiana Repertory Theatre has made the extremely difficult decision to close to the public for the rest of the 19-20 Season.

This is devastating news for our staff and artists, and we do not make this decision lightly. We thank our loyal patrons for your patience as we move forward in these unprecedented times.

Our Ticket Office will be in touch with patrons who purchased Murder on the Orient Express tickets to best accommodate the closing of this production as well as the closing of the season. As you can imagine, our customer service staff is experiencing high volumes of requests at this time, and we ask that you await their contact.

  • For Murder on the Orient Express ticket holders:
    • IRT, in partnership with WFYI, is pleased to offer ticket holders a taped performance of Murder on the Orient Express. We will have details on accessing this online in the next two weeks.
    • Please consider donating the value of your ticket(s) back to the IRT.

  • If you have tickets for the remainder of the season:
    • Please consider donating the value of your ticket(s) back to the IRT.

As a nonprofit organization, which employs many talented artists, artisans and staff, the IRT could use your support during this time. We know that closing for the remainder of the season is the right decision to make for our community, but please consider donating the value of the remainder of this season’s tickets to the IRT. We hope that you will help support the work of the IRT and the people who create the sets, lights, sound, costumes, take your tickets, serve your beverages, and so many more behind the scenes. We cannot overstate the devastating impact that not performing the remainder of our season will have on our organization. We know that you love what an evening at the IRT entails–an evening of high-quality theatre that strengthens community and expands our humanity.

Please help support our mission by making your remaining season’s tickets a donation and support the IRT’s ability to weather this current uncertainty and continue producing theatre for years to come. If you would also like to consider making an additional donation, go to http://www.irtlive.com/support. We thank you for the many wonderful moments of this season and look forward to when we can welcome you back again!

Your tremendous support of the IRT and the arts in our community means the world to us.

Sincerely,
Margot Lacy Eccles Artistic Director Janet Allen and Managing Director Suzanne Sweeney

The health and safety of our patrons is extremely important to us and we wanted to share with you our preparedness as it relates to COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease). The IRT is currently following the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local and state public health authorities, to safeguard your health and wellbeing, and that of our employees, volunteers, and performers.

Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the following preventive measures should be taken to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
    • Please do not attend public events if you are unwell or in a high risk group. If you have been to CDC level III countries, and have not undergone the 14-day quarantine, please stay home until your quarantine time has passed.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
  • Prevent the spread of misinformation by learning more about the CDC’s updated recommendations here.

What you need to know about visiting the IRT, and keeping yourself healthy and safe:

  • Follow the preventive measures outlined above by the CDC.
  • IRT is providing extra sanitization throughout the building, and offering more hand sanitization stations in our Ticket Office and lobbies. We also have wipes available if staff or patrons would like to use them in our theatres.
  • During this time, we ask staff and volunteers to avoid touching of tickets, and we will not be reusing program books.
  • If you are under the weather and would like to exchange your tickets for a future performance please reach out to the Ticket Office at 317.635.5252 and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
  • If you choose to stay home, please consider donating the value of your ticket back to the IRT. Your donation will go toward making future performances possible.
  • We will continue to monitor the concern internationally, nationally, and locally by following the CDC and Marion County Public Health Department guidelines.
