The Indiana Repertory Theatre has named Tanner Chaille, Harper Hovey and Kali Baker the winners of ‘Young Playwrights in Process,’ an annual playwriting competition for Indiana students in grades 6-12. The winners’ work was selected from more than 150 entries.

Through YPiP, the IRT invites young playwrights to submit plays that reflect and challenge the world. Over four months, each play is reviewed by a committee of theatre and writing professionals who determine six semi-finalists, then the finalists.

Chaille, Hovey and Baker will each receive a $1,000 cash prize, a scholarship to IRT’s Summer Conservatory, and the opportunity to have their play presented at the Finalist Workshop on April 22, while the remaining semi-finalists will receive a $100 cash prize, a partial scholarship to IRT Summer Conservatory and the opportunity to have excerpts of their scripts presented during the Finalist Workshop.

“YPIP is supported through the Margot and Robert S. Eccles Trust, which has allowed us to cultivate the amazing young talent we have in our communities”, said Janet Allen, IRT Executive Artistic Director.

The Finalist Workshop is a free celebration and features public readings from each semi-finalist as well as full readings from both finalists. The event takes place on April 22 in the IRT Cabaret at 4:30 PM., with a reception to follow.
