Our relationship with the Theatre began with Summer Conservatory in 1997. Our daughter, Rebecca, was six at the time and really latched onto acting. She was cast as a witch in a small play and from there her love of the theatre grew. After our wonderful experience with the conservatory program, we were thrilled when Rebecca was cast as Helen Keller in the IRT’s production of The Miracle Worker in 2000. This further solidified our relationship with the Theatre.
After these personal experiences with the IRT, we continued to learn more about the impact the IRT has on the community with outreach programs and educational offerings. These programs do so much to enhance school lessons. When we would drop Rebecca off for student matinée performances, you could tell that the kids attending the show were truly drawn into the performance and learning beyond the classroom; the stories would take hold of them. We wish everyone in the community saw what we saw during those student performances. The faces of students captivated by live theatre tell us just how tremendous the IRT’s impact is for them. The IRT also continues to bring relevant, timely productions to its audiences. This season’s production of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner was one of our favorites because it brought issues to the forefront that is still relevant and very timely, and the acting was incredible. The IRT is a beautiful organization that we have here, and it’s an asset to Indianapolis that we haven’t seen anywhere else we’ve lived. This is why we’ve been giving to the IRT for more than two decades. |
